CORIANDER: Beneficial For Depression And Anxiety

Olive oil is a major component in the infamous “Mediterranean diet”, but is it any good for treating depression?

SALT: Vital Elements For Numerous Bodily Functions

Natural, unrefined salt contains essential minerals and elements which are vital for numerous body-mind functions.   The most important of these are potassium, magnesium and calcium.

Inadequate brain magnesium appears to reduce serotonin levels.[8Opens in a new tab.]  In other words; A magnesium deficiency = A serotonin deficiency.

So, even if a simple pinch of salt is not going to give you your recommended daily value of magnesium (+ other essential elements), it will help put to you on the right track to optimal health and overall well-being, as you’ll be giving your body some of the essential minerals and elements it needs to function to the best of its abilities.

MILK: Tryptophan – Precursor to Serotonin

If you wish to use a non-dairy alternative or exclude the milk altogether from this recipe then no worries!  But, if you do choose to include it, here are it’s benefits:

Milk contains Tryptophan which is the precursor to:

  • The neurotransmitter Serotonin (said to create feelings of calm, relaxation and sleepiness).
  • The hormone Melatonin (helps regulate wakefulness and your Circadian Rhythm. If you have trouble sleeping or staying awake, this may be why).
  • Niacin (Vitamin B3: Boosts brain function).

All of which are highly beneficial when you’re struggling in depression.

Milk also contains Vitamin D which is said to alleviate fluctuations in mood, giving a balancing effect on the body-mind system.

Milk can also help facilitate the transportation of all the valuable nutrients + fat-soluble vitamins (Vitamins A, E, D + K require fat for the body to fully absorb them), to reach all the necessary cells, giving you the greatest therapeutic benefits.
