Hi and welcome back!  As always, it’s great to have you here!

I’m your host Marie O’Neil, Creator of the highly transformative – Complete Self-Help System For Overcoming DepressionOpens in a new tab. and Author of How To Create A Depression-Free Life: Proven Strategies to Overcome Depression ASAPOpens in a new tab..

Now, unfortunately the majority of us, when we’re locked in a state of depression, feel we must summon a mammoth-sized amount of motivation, will power, positive thoughts, or drive to be able to push ourselves forward – up + out of depression.

But, let’s be honest…..

How many of us are truly capable of doing that whilst we’re struggling in the depths of depression – with next to no energy?

Not many, if any of us, right?!

I mean, you and I both know it’s damn near impossible to summon up enough energy to simply get ourselves out of bed, let alone, up and out of depression!

And, it’s NOT that we don’t try – because we do!

We try so very hard, yet still we cannot summon the will, the motivation or the energy to lift ourselves out from under.

So, it’s understandable why many of us shrug our shoulders, give up and admit defeat.

And, you know what?

It’s okay!  It’s perfectly natural to feel this way!  We shouldn’t feel bad, guilty or ashamed about this.

After all, it’s absolutely natural to have zero energy or motivation when our entire body-mind system is depressed.

In fact, it can’t be any other way!

So, it kinda seems like we’re in a bind, doesn’t it?

I mean, we need motivation and energy to lift ourselves up and out of depression, yet, the very state of depression causes us to have no energy or motivation.

So, it’s easy to see why many of us get stuck!

But, the great news is….

There is another way!

Yes, that’s right!

If we want out of depression – there is another path!

And, what is that path, you maybe asking?

Well, from today…

I’m going to ask you to stop pushing, stop trying to drive yourself forward with what little energy you do have and conserve it.  Stop trying to lift yourself out from under and try another way, a much easier way!

A way which doesn’t require you to summon a mammoth-sized amount of will power to drive yourself forward, but one which effortlessly pulls you forward into a brighter future.

And, what is that way?

Well, it consists of two simple steps.

But, before I share them, I just want you to think about a time someone tried to push you into doing something, or tried to push you into thinking a certain way?

If you’re like the rest of us (no matter how compliant your personality maybe), you probably found that the more the other person tried to push you into doing something, the more resistant you became.

The more stubborn and unwilling we become because we feel we’re being pushed or forced into something – it’s not our decision – it’s theirs and we don’t want to be pushed.

So, we become like some sort of sitting bull, stubborn and unmovable.

Now, this may seem unrelated to getting ourselves out of depression, but it’s not.

In fact, I want you to always remember, this visual and the principles of being pushed and it creating resistance within you, when you’re trying to shift yourself out of the darkness of depression and into a brighter future.

Because, it’s of vital importance!

You see, science states that it’s easier to pull something than it is to push it.

And, since we live in this universe, we’re also governed by these very same scientific laws.

It is easier for us to be pulled in a certain direction, than it is for us to be pushed.

Which means, when we’re stuck in the depths of depression with next to no energy, it’s smarter for us to simply stop trying to push ourselves out of depression (because, we simply don’t have the energy to do it) and instead, learn how to allow ourselves to be pulled forward, out of depression and into a brighter future.

So, how do we allow ourselves to be “pulled” out of depression?

Well, by following these 2 simple steps….

STEP ONE

Ask yourself;

  • How do you want to be?
  • How do you see yourself being out of depression?
  • What type of person are you?
  • How would you carry yourself?
  • How would you act?
  • How would you feel?

So, this first step is about focusing on where you’re going?  Who is that person that you want to be?

Don’t worry about who you are today or how crappy you may feel!

Just focus all your attention on creating an image of the person you want to become.

What would the non-depressed, confident, glowing version of yourself look like, act like, feel like, be like?

And, when you’ve got that image in your mind….

STEP TWO

Is to start making decisions, responding to life’s challenges and opportunities from THAT space.

So, from today, instead of responding from where you are today (from a space of feeling stuck, depressed, anxious, angry or sad) simply stop and before responding to anything, just ask yourself :

How would the person I want to be, respond?

How would they act?  How would the happiest, strongest, most confident version of yourself respond or act in this situation?

And, make your move from “that” space.

And, this is how we allow ourselves to be “pulled” forward, up and out of depression.

Can you see that instead of trying to force or motivate the stuck version of ourselves to ‘summon the will’ to push ourselves out of depression, we’re allowing the future, stronger version of ourselves to effortlessly pull us forward, out of it an into a bright, new depression-free space.

And, all it takes is for us to constantly ask ourselves:  How would the person I want to be, respond?

Now, there’s a great quote by a Dr Harry Emerson Fosdick which I’d love to share with you right now, because I feel it really shows the vital importance of this 2nd Step of making decisions and responding to life’s challenges from the space of where you “want” to be.  Of imagining how the person you “want” to become would act, feel and decide.

And, that quote is:

“Hold a picture of yourself long and steadily enough in your minds eye and you will be drawn toward it. Picture yourself vividly as defeated and that alone will make victory impossible. Picture yourself vividly as winning and that alone will contribute immeasurably to success. Great living starts with a picture, held in your imagination, of what you would like to be and do.”

So, from today, stop trying to push yourself and simply start imagining yourself as the person you want to become; see yourself acting, feeling and being as you want to be, and make decisions from “that” space.

Allow your stronger, future self to effortlessly pull you forward up and out of depression and into the brighter, flourishing, future which is waiting for you!

Because, it’s all yours if you want it!  And, on that note it’s time to say, I appreciate you and I appreciate your time, so thanks for joining me into today’s episode, I hope you enjoyed it.
