COMMON-SYMPTOMS-OF-DEPRESSION-IN-WOMEN-MEN-1280X720

Are you currently asking yourself; “Am I depressed?” “Do I have Depression?”

If so, it can be an extremely confusing + often, scary time (trust me, I know!)

So, that’s why I thought I’d put together this quick list of common signs and symptoms of depression, so you can begin to see what depression looks and feels like for the majority of people.

The Physical Symptoms of Depression

Although everyone experiences physical symptoms while depressed, those which manifest the strongest vary from person to person.  In other words, you may experience just a few of the following physical symptoms of depression, or you may suffer from all.

If you would like to know more about why we experience these physical symptoms during depression (and how you can break-free from these symptoms), check out my FREE Masterclass: How To Rapidly Overcome Depression… By Effectively Treating The Root Cause of Depression, as this explains what’s truly going on ‘behind the scenes’ when we’re in depression.

  • Fatigue
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Appetite disturbances
  • Digestive disturbances
  • Weight changes
  • Constipation
  • Changes in urinary frequency
  • Menstrual changes (signs of depression in women)
  • Sexual disturbances
  • Cardiovascular disturbances
  • Dyspnea (difficult or laboured breathing)

  • Auditory sensations (for example; need silence, hypersensitive to sounds, ringing in ears, hard to hear, etc).
  • Numbness and tingling (for example; pins and needles, crawling sensation across skin, burning or cold sensation, legs go to sleep, etc).
  • Feelings of unreality (for example; feeling ‘out of this world’ or as if, there is great space or  distance between self and others, even though in reality this is not correct).
  • Hot flushes (sudden warm/hot sensation over the entire body or localised in the head and chest areas).
  • Skin complaints or disorders

The Emotional Symptoms of Depression

Although everyone experiences physical symptoms while depressed, there can also be a multitude of emotional changes that occur simultaneously. Again, the emotional symptoms which manifest the strongest, will vary from person to person.

Emotional symptoms of depression can vary from mild to severe, depending upon the depth or duration of the depressed state.

If you would like to know more about why we experience these emotional symptoms during depression (and how you can break-free from these symptoms), check out my FREE Masterclass: How To Rapidly Overcome Depression… By Effectively Treating The Root Cause of Depression, as this explains what’s truly going on ‘behind the scenes’ when we’re in depression.

  • Depressed or dejected mood (for example, forced smile, change in mood and personality, etc).
  • Crying spells or an inability to cry
  • Thoughts of: “Why has this happened to me?” – “What have I done to deserve this?” – “Will it never end?”
  • Anxiety, obsessions, phobias (for example, overly conscious of self, unrelenting introspection (usually negative); “I’m such a burden” – “I’m not good enough” – “I’m a failure” – “I’m wrong, bad, immoral….”, etc., filled with constant doubts, fears, indecision and/or obsessed with personal faults or failings.)
  • Irritability (for example, quickly excited, easily annoyed or irritated, impatient, petulant, readily exasperated and fretful).
  • Feelings of guilt (unhealthy remorse, disproportionate guilt, won’t forgive self for past)
  • Feelings of desperation (inner turmoil)
  • Lack of confidence

The Mental Symptoms of Depression

Mental symptoms in depression are the third major group of indicators associated with depression. Again, the mental signs and symptoms which manifest the strongest, will vary from person to person and can vary from mild to severe, depending upon the depth or duration of the depressed state.

If you would like to know more about why we experience these mental symptoms during depression (and how you can break-free from these symptoms), check out my FREE Masterclass:  The True Root Cause of Depression, as this explains what’s truly going on ‘behind the scenes’ when we’re in depression.

  • Psychomotor retardation (for example, slowed speech and/or movement)
  • Reduced interest in usual pursuits
  • Becomes quieter
  • Putting off more and more things
  • Life loses lustre (due to the extreme self introspection, so unable to fully enjoy life or connect with others)
  • Impaired concentration (mind is everywhere but ‘on the job’)
  • Impaired memory
  • Indecisiveness (this inability to decide can increase feelings of guilt and decrease levels of confidence in self)
  • Loss of interest (in everything!)
  • Death wishes (for example, an individual may want to escape from the ‘life is a living hell’ torment they are experiencing, may wish to fall asleep and not wake up, have suicidal thoughts, and/or may wish to meet with a fatal accident, etc).
  • Illusions and misinterpretations (for example, misinterpreting the behaviour of others to be a sign that they’re out to get you)
  • Delusions (for example, ‘others are staring at me all the time because they think I’m crazy’)
  • Hallucinations (for example, ‘I thought I heard a voice in my head’)
  • Abnormal behaviour (a distinct change in usual behaviour)
  • Alcoholism
  • Marital discord and/or strained relationships
  • Gambling
