So, I just want you to imagine that you’re drawing a line through your eye, from front to back. And, then I want you to draw another line through your ear. Now, where these two lines intersect is the home of a very special, tiny structure which has the power to transform your entire life; mentally, emotionally and physically.
It also has the power to either keep you stuck in depression or anxiety, or free you from these less-than optimal states, it all depends on how we use it.
This tiny, yet powerful structure is called your Amygdala. We have one on the right side and one on our left side.
Simply put, the Amygdala is a structure within our brain which is said to be responsible for the processing of emotions, survival instincts, memory and many other functions.
Now, just take a look at the image below. As this will help you see what’s really going on “behind the scenes” within our brain when we hold onto negative or fear-based thoughts and how the brain actually “triggers” the chemical imbalance commonly associated with depression and anxiety.
Here’s the deal…
Anytime we hold onto negative or fear-based thoughts or feelings, whether consciously or even unconsciously, our Amygdala gets activated inside our brain. It lights up!
Now, why does this happen and why is this VITAL to be aware of if you want to overcome the likes of, depression and anxiety?
Well, simply put….
Our amygdala gets activated because believes that these negative or fear-based thoughts or feelings are a definite sign of danger or impending doom within our environment.
So, to protect us it activates and then sends a signal down our spine to tell our fight/flight system to turn on and then, BOOM!!! Our Survival Centre gets activated.
Now, if you’ve watched my FREE Masterclass, the term Survival Centre will be familiar to you and you’ll also be aware that the activation of our Survival Centre means we quite literally set-off “chemical chaos” or a “chemical storm” throughout our entire body-mind system, which if not stopped, will drive us into the likes of depression, anxiety or may even cause us to experience autoimmune conditions along with a wide range of digestive, reproductive and sexual disorders.
Now, as daunting or scary as all of this “chemical chaos” may sound, it’s not as bad as it seems!
You see, if we just check out this image…
Can you see the power is firmly within our hands to change this chemical imbalance?
In fact, just at a quick glance we can see we have at least two options available to us, if we wanna reverse all this “chemical chaos” (chemical imbalance) and overcome the likes of; depression or anxiety.
The first, is that we simply need to remove the negative thought or feeling, which is the very thing which ‘set-off’ this domino effect of “chemical chaos” in the first place! Removing the cause instantly transforms the outcome. It’s the simple laws of cause and effect, right?
But, even, if it’s too late….
Let’s say, we’ve thought the thoughts and we’ve ‘triggered’ this entire process of “chemical chaos” within our system, it’s okay.
All is not lost because we can still reverse it.
All it takes, is for us to simply de-activate our Amygdala and Survival Centre using proven methods. And, once we do that, once we “dial down” these systems, our entire body-mind system will relax and return to it’s optimal, depression-free, anxiety-free state. Which is exactly what we want!
But, how do we do it?
How do we start reversing this “chemical chaos” which has been ‘set-off’ by the activation of our Amygdala and Survival Centre?

But, just for now….
I would like to share a quick and easy, proven way to not only, calm all those incessant thoughts we have in depression but also calm down the activation of our Survival Centre.
So, when you complete this technique it’s like ‘hitting two birds with one stone’.
You’re calming those thoughts which can ‘set off’ your amygdala, which in turn ‘sets off’ your Survival Centre. And, then you’re also calming your Survival Centre. So, this one technique can help you attack the “chemical chaos” which is occurring, from both ends; from it’s starting point and it’s result.
So, here are the steps…
First, you simply want to make yourself comfortable, close your eyes and take SEVEN long deep breaths.
Now, by long deep breaths, I mean, you want to breathe in deeply through your nostrils, keeping your mouth closed. Do your best to feel the breath reach deep down into your abdomen. If you can’t achieve this, don’t stress, don’t force anything.
This can take practice if we haven’t breathed deeply or even correctly for a long period of time. Which most of us don’t in the West and especially, if we’ve been stuck in the likes of depression or anxiety for any length of time.
So, this is something that we need to practice but your aim here is to simply feel as though you’re filling the entire abdomen and the chest cavity with air. So they expand as much as possible for you.
Now, this isn’t a competition, there is no right or wrong, just simply keep your eyes closed and feel as though you are completely filling up your lungs.
As you breathe in; hold the breath briefly. Just for a second and then, as you breathe out; release the breath calmly and slowly through your mouth.
You wanna do your best to completely empty out all the air from your lungs and this can be made easier by simply pulling in your abdomen gently as you slowly breath out.
Then, breathe in and fill your entire abdomen, once again.
After completing this cycle of seven long, deep, slow breaths, I want you to simply allow your body to just take over the natural breathing process.
Just allow your breath to start flowing naturally without any interference, as you gently turn all of your attention inwards and become completely aware of the natural rhythm of your breathing.
Simply ‘watch’ your breathing.
Now, what do I mean by ‘watch’ your breathing?
What I mean is, with your eyes closed simply observe the natural rhythm of your breathing, in and out. If possible, feel the incoming breath flowing in past the inner lining of your nostrils. And, as you breathe out, follow that breathe outwards. See it move out into the world around you and eventually dissolve.
Begin to see and feel your breath as the only thing that exists in your world when you do this technique.
Nothing else matters to you in this moment.
Just follow each breath and its movement, in and out.
Keep your focus entirely on the rhythm of your breathing.
After some practice, if you want to elevate this technique then as you breathe in; and you’re feeling that air, flow in through your nostrils, feel as though you’re breathing in peacefulness and tranquility.
And, as you breathe out; feel as though you’re breathing out all of your tensions, worries and concerns.
Be ‘with’ your breathing, as long as you possible.
Place all of your awareness on your breath and simply allow each and every breath to refresh your mind, body and spirit.
Once you feel calm, rested and rejuvenated, gently open your eyes and continue your day feeling more refreshed and relaxed.
Now, the great thing about this technique is not only is it really simple so anyone can do it but your breath is with you, every single moment of every single day, so you can complete this technique anytime you like to instantly calm the chaos of the mind or de-activate and calm your amygdala and Survival Centre.
Do give it a go! So you can see and feel the positive benefits for yourself.
Now, I would like to take a moment to emphasise that to begin with, distracting thoughts WILL rise within the mind when you start doing this technique. That’s okay, it’s natural, it’s the nature of the mind.
So, don’t struggle with any thoughts or try and push any thoughts away because anytime we tense up and stress about something we’re gonna activate our amygdala and our Survival Centre.
Just allow any thoughts to “pass through” your mind, as if they are clouds floating across the sky.
Just, visualise the thoughts simply “floating through” the mind.
Yes, you are aware of them! But, you are not becoming entangled in them, you are not interacting with them.
Just allow yourself to “keep that distance” from them, in the very same way “that distance” or “space” is kept between you and the clouds that float though the sky.
Now, if you watched my previous livestream, you’ll already know why we need to stop interacting with any unwanted or negative thoughts if we want to free ourselves from depression!
So, just allow any thoughts whether they are good, bad or ugly, it does not matter! Just allow them “free passage” through your mind without any interference or any judgements and over time you will see something really magical happen. Not only, will your incessant thoughts calm down but they will completely change their essence or quality.
You will no longer have a QUANTITY of thoughts but QUALITY thoughts!
And, it’s all been achieved without too much effort on your part. And, I don’t know about you but less effort for more results, sound good to me!
